Matthew Gould, MFT
Psychotherapy & Consultation
Licensed Individual & Couples Psychotherapist
California Marriage & Family Therapist #37850
I believe that Life can be better. We can feel, think, and live more in alignment with the ways we really want to. Psychotherapy is a highly effective process that can help get us there. I have been a therapist in private practice for over twenty years, and have helped many people change the way that they experience and interact with their feelings and with the world around them. This site contains information about the ways that I work with individuals and couples, and about my practice. Please feel free to reach out with any questions that you may have...
Good therapy is an interplay between art and science. In a direct and collaborative way, I blend current research and evidence based practices with compassion, creativity, and humor. I draw on several theoretical orientations and on many years of clinical experience working with individuals and couples, as well as supervising and training other psychotherapists.
I believe that our histories profoundly influence how we experience ourselves, how we manage our feelings, and the overall quality of our relationships. While this belief fundamentally guides my thinking and informs my treatment approach, I am versed in a variety of techniques, rooted in other traditions, and am comfortable treating a wide range of clinical issues. I use tools from psychodynamic therapies, solution focused and cognitive based therapies, and mindfulness based practices.
My clinical training is extensive and has been gained working with a diverse clientele in several clinical settings. I have a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology, extensive post graduate clinical training, am licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in California, and have been involved with the healing arts for over thirty years.
My work is especially effective in helping people who are functioning at a high level already, but who struggle with issues such as self-doubt, trouble with intimacy, depression, anxiety, or the inability to fully manifest what they really want.
I am available to meet at my Union Street office, for online therapy via Zoom/FaceTime, and by telephone. If you would like to set up a meeting or have any questions about my practice... please don't hesitate to reach out!
